My name is Fat Heat, and I am an addict – of painting!

I’m from a small town in Hungary, Europe. My addiction began in 1998 when just a few blocks away from my home mysterious and colorful letters started appearing, and I have instantly fallen in love with the artform. I was amazed by the colors, the enormous sizes of the artworks and the overall crazy energy that these paintings were transmitting. It became a part of me, and I was lucky enough to find people of similar interests who quickly became my closest friends and for that reason we founded the Colored Effects crew in the year 2000. We had our first official ‘group show’ in a local city’s club in 2002, ever since then my life has revolved around this artform.

For the last 20 years I have taken part in numerous festivals that were promoting or celebrating graffiti, street art and mural art: I’ve been to several Meeting of Styles gatherings in Switzerland, Poland, Greece, Italy, Germany, Kosovo, and Finland, and I also took part in organizing the event in these past years in Hungary. I’ve painted in the Netherlands as part of the Step In The Arena festival and was also exhibited a few times at the Boom Festival in Portugal.

For me, graffiti is kind of like a competition – a passionate, but healthy way of living and challenging myself while making art that requires deep concentration. So, I decided to synchronize this dependency of mine with a lifestyle that is more suitable for the general societal norms. I believe the nights spent awake and the dangerous situations I luckily got myself out of safely taught me to have an objective worldview. Even though I’ve given up on the illegal part of writing as it is, I will always treasure that golden era of my life because those years paved the way for me to be the person I am today.

My goal these days is to communicate my views and values in the most honest way possible, by making art whether it’s on a smaller canvas or a bigger wall, through vivid letters or lively characters. My name is Fat Heat and I’m not even thinking about quitting anymore.
