This collage was inspired by the art work The Happy Donor (1966) de René Magritte.
The Happy Donor juxtaposes objects and images typical of René Magritte’s work. Firstly, the silhouette of the man in the suit and bowler hat, who blends in with the night landscape he is observing. Magritte is quoting himself here, reproducing his famous The Empire of Light: a lit-up house asleep at night, with a daytime sky dotted with stars and a crescent moon. The scene is punctuated by Magritte’s famous bell on a stone wall. As always with this artist, incoherent elements are realistically juxtaposed to make the familiar seem strange.
