Louis XIII (1601–1643): The reign of Louis XIII was marked by numerous military campaigns and the assertion of royal authority, paving the way for the unification of France.
Residing at the Château de Saint-Germain, the King divided his time between official duties and hunting trips in the forest. He frequently took advantage of the proximity of the old manor belonging to his advisor, Jean de Longueil—Seigneur de Maisons—to rest and have a snack there. Later, he would follow the progress of the new château’s construction, a project undertaken by Longueil’s son, René.
