Sonnevanck (EN)

Theater Sonnevanck is one of the largest youth theater companies in the Netherlands. Its office and theater are located in a former warehouse. The building once belonged to the Jannink textile family. In 1985, the then-councilor for culture wanted to renovate the old warehouse. Because it had stood empty for some time, the building had fallen into disrepair and the windows were missing their glass. As a result, many birds had found a new home in the abandoned building. That is why a mural of birds was initially considered. Then artist Gerrit Kerssies proposed adding colorful frames to the windows.

Theater Sonnevanck is één van de grootste jeugdtheatergezelschappen van Nederland. Het kantoor en de theaterzaal zijn gevestigd in het voormalig pakhuis. Het pand was vroeger van de textielfamilie Jannink. In 1985 wilde de toenmalige wethouder van cultuur het oude pakhuis opknappen. Omdat het al enige tijd leeg stond, was het gebouw vervallen en ontbrak het glas in de ramen. Hierdoor hadden vele vogels een nieuw thuis gevonden in het verlaten gebouw. Daarom werd aanvankelijk gedacht aan een muurschildering van vogels. Toen kwam kunstenaar Gerrit Kerssies met het voorstel om de vensters te voorzien van kleurrijke omlijstingen.
