At FABRIEK59, Paul Watty brings history back to life through a mural that celebrates craftsmanship, creativity, and the people who built this city. This isn't just about painting a wall. This is about transforming a place, preserving history, and creating something that invites people to stop, look, and connect.

"Al wat nieuw is, werd uit oud geboren” (Everything new, is born of the old).
This quote is by Leon Kalfus, the founder of textile processing company "Leon Kalfus & Zoon", which opened its doors in 1959 on the site of what is now FABRIEK59 in Tilburg.

In 1959, Leon Kalfus, the grandfather of the current owner Greg Kalfus, had this factory built. He used the halls to sort collected clothing and process them into bales of textiles, weighing 50 to 500 kilos, which were given a second life elsewhere in the world. Depending on the quality, this was either as vintage garments or cut up into cleaning rags for the industry. The mural depicts the story of a city shaped by its textile industry. And Paul Watty brought that story back to the place where it belongs.

N.B.:The title of the work "De rode draad" has a double meaning in Dutch. Literally, it means the red thread, but figuratively speaking it's "the common thread".

Paul Watty (1975) is a versatile artist. He creates hyperrealistic murals that often draw inspiration from nature. His art tells stories and evokes emotions. Paul also works in neighborhoods where poverty and social problems are prevalent, where he connects residents and communities.
Paul became a full-time muralist just a few years ago.

De muurschildering vertelt het verhaal van een stad die gevormd is door haar textielindustrie. En Paul Watty heeft dat verhaal teruggebracht naar de plek waar het thuishoort.

Paul Watty (1975) is een veelzijdig kunstenaar. Hij maakt hyperrealistische muurschilderingen die vaak inspiratie putten uit de natuur. Zijn kunst vertelt verhalen en roept emoties op.
