Wurzeln sind tiefer als Mauern – Roots are deeper than walls
“Communication works under the trees. They exchange information with each other via the root systems, fungi and microorganisms, they are not lonely individuals, but part of a complex organism whose components support each other. Human churches function on similar principles. Despite all walls there is mutual communication, our relationships are more important than our differences.” – OTO HUDEC
The monumental painting was created on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Wall and the revolutionary events of November ’89 in Slovakia. These political changes in 1989 meant the fall of the totalitarian regime. The work “Roots are deeper than walls” is a symbolic reminder of the importance of civic engagement, the principles of assistance and solidarity, and the need for respect for nature.
The project was created on the initiative of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with the Kunsthalle Bratislava and was requested by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
