MEDICINE (ΙΑΤΡΙΚΗ)

The mural was created during LA Comics Festival Vol. 6, with Sako Asko participating as a guest of the Project IppoKampos (ETKrew), the official organizer of the festival.

" Mythology, medicine, and art are different forms of healing. This mural, titled “Medicine,” is located in the city of Larisa, Greece, specifically at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Thessaly.

This work narrates part of the history of Western medicine, from its spiritual origins to its scientific evolution. It represents key figures such as Apollo, the sun god of healing; Chiron, the noble centaur; Asclepius, the god of medicine; Hippocrates, considered the father of Western medicine; the physician Paula Pulido; the women of Salerno, from one of the earliest medical schools; Trotula of Salerno, a pioneer in gynecology and obstetrics; and Hildegard of Bingen, philosopher and physician.

The mural seeks to inspire and motivate students of the faculty, reminding them of the importance of the profession they have chosen. At the same time, it is α tribute to the noble act of healing.

The arrow that wounds us connects us to pain. By understanding it, we can develop empathy for those who suffer. Healing arises from the awareness of pain. Just as suffering expands, so does healing. The pain and healing of those we did not know have benefited us, and our own pain and healing will benefit others in the future."
