Hakatere

The Māori word representing the place of the Ashburton River, this artwork welcomes those to the community of the large town. The many different aspects of the mural represents the attributes of Ashburton, including the public angel, the colours representing diversity, the historic aspects of the film strip including the Ashburton Clock Tower, and nature which is spread throughout the artwork.

The artwork was the winner of the Welcoming Mural Project by the Welcoming Communities Programme of Ashburton District Council, and was officially launched on 24 July 2021.
