Gent ontwaakt

Description

This artwork is a symbol of solidarity and hospitality, and supports the Refugee Walk 2024. It is a symbiosis between people and organizations looking for connection and solidarity.
The driving force behind this impressive work is Ismail, born and raised in the Khan Younis refugee camp. He uses his art to express the experiences of people on the run.

"It is an ode to the journey that refugees make, the challenges they encounter along the way and the hospitality of the receiving communities." - Ismail Matar

A project by Refugee Walk, NBQ Spray, Artistic Oasis and Voem vzw, with support from Stad Gent.

My life? Street art, music, European comics, contemporary art, travelling... On my FlickR account you'll find all my street art photography, and yes that means a lot of pictures. Living in Ghent (Belgium), so most pictures are taken in my home town. And yes, that's the place I'm taking care of on Street Art Cities. Let me know when you come over to visit, perhaps we can have a drink or walk.
