Description

Artwork created for the municipality of Tilburg.

Erik Veldmeijer is a local self taught-artist, originally from Berkel-Enschot. He didn't follow any drawing or art training. As a boy, starting with graffiti, he illegally left his traces on Tilburg's walls. Now Veldmeijer only works on commision for the municipality. His murals are prominently present in the street scene of the city and as artistic advisor he takes the lead in giving Tilburg an injection of color, culture and optimism.

About his name "Veldinho", the artist tells me that, as his last name is Veldmeijer, everyone called him "Veld". Veld was a bit to common in his eyes, so he made it sound more worldly by giving it a little Brazilian twist. Et voilà: Veldinho.
