Marcus Wedman (Marc Art) and Teunis Spits (Future Relics), childhood friends from Drachten, have shared a passion for murals from an early age. Commissioned by the Municipality of Smallingerland, they created this mural, inspired by an iconic Philips Philishave packaging design from 1950.
The choice of simplicity was deliberate — it was precisely this simplicity that made the original Philips advertising so powerful. Through this design, they bring a piece of the past back into today's streetscape.
The world-famous Philishave, once manufactured in Drachten, will evoke a sense of nostalgia and recognition among older generations, while sparking curiosity and admiration among younger ones.
The result is a mural that connects the past and present while looking towards the future — a work of art that Drachten can be proud of.
