Description

At 127 Charlotte Street, Cooktown, this expansive mural brightens the side of the Cooktown RSL building, directly opposite the Elizabeth Guzsely Gallery.

Created by Jane Denis (president of the Gallery and Cooktown School of Art Society Inc.), the first stage was funded by the RSL and features red poppies to honour remembrance. The wall then grew into a community collaboration, with travellers and locals adding tropical flowers, fruits, birds, butterflies, frogs, and playful details.

The mural is both a tribute to service and sacrifice and a celebration of Cooktown’s vibrant natural world and community spirit.
