Ode aan de spoorbrug

Description

On the side façade of Maaskade 61 is a work of art by Otto Snoek: ‘Ode to the Railway Bridge’.

The five-arched Willemspoor Bridge, a landmark of Rotterdam, became redundant when the Willemspoort Tunnel opened in 1993. During the final period of the bridge’s existence, photographer Otto Snoek captured it at various moments – as well as the dismantling process in 1994.

This photograph, showing the bridge shrouded in mist, was affixed to the blank wall of Maaskade 61 in 1999 as a memento of the iconic bridge. In 2022, the old print was replaced with a new one.
