More Than Machinery

Description

The portrait depicts Charlie Chaplin in his famous "Tramp" persona and includes his iconic film quote "Sometimes we think too much and feel too little". The quote is taken from the final speech of Chaplins movie The Great Dictator (1940) - an appeal to humanity, kindness, and gentleness.

Chaplin’s connection to Belfast dates back to his youth: As a young performer, he visited Belfast with traveling theater troupes. In addition to the mural, there is a small bronze figure on Joy Street, as well as another public art installation in the Titanic Quarter.
