Description
The mural was created by Tanja Papez from Zutphen. As a child, she spent a great deal of time in hospital, where she drew extensively. At the time, she had no idea that years later this would grow into her greatest passion and profession, leading to projects throughout the Netherlands and even abroad. She started painting as a hobby 23 years ago. Since then, it has developed into a creative and successful business that has now been established for 15 years.
The mural was designed by Natasja Fokke. After working in the legal sector for 25 years, she decided to take a completely different path. Today, she works as a body coach and is also actively involved as the initiator of the mural art project in IJsselstein. The location of the mural is a true eye-catcher: anyone entering IJsselstein can hardly miss the artwork. Natasja hopes it will bring a smile to the faces of passers-by.
The mural was made possible by Casaz Wonen and the municipality of IJsselstein.
The mural depicts a woman whose hair flows into blue waves symbolizing the waters of the IJssel River. In the background, the drawbridge at Poortdijk and the St. Nicholas Basilica can be seen. The Gerbrandytower is also featured. Every December, hundreds of LED lights are hung on this 366-meter-high tower, transforming it into the largest Christmas tree in the Netherlands.
The larger electricity cabinet has also been beautifully incorporated into the design. Beneath the wave, which contains the text “like a drop in the ocean of human existence,” two drops are shown falling, while the third drop appears on the electricity cabinet itself.

De schildering is gemaakt door Tanja Papez uit Zutphen. Als kind lag zij veel in het ziekenhuis, waar ze veel tekende. Toen wist ze nog niet dat ze hier jaren later haar grote passie en beroep van zou maken, met projecten door heel Nederland en zelfs in het buitenland. 23 jaar geleden begon ze hobbymatig met schilderen. Inmiddels is dat uitgegroeid tot een creatief en succesvol bedrijf dat al 15 jaar bestaat.
Het ontwerp van de schildering is van Natasja Fokke uit IJsselstein. Na 25 jaar werkzaam te zijn geweest in de juridische sector gooide zij het roer om. Tegenwoordig werkt ze als lichaamscoach en zet zij zich in als initiatiefnemer van gevelkunst in IJsselstein. De locatie van de schildering is een echte eyecatcher: wie IJsselstein binnenrijdt, kan het kunstwerk bijna niet missen. Natasja hoopt dan ook dat het voorbijgangers een glimlach bezorgt.
De schildering is mogelijk gemaakt door Casaz Wonen en de gemeente IJsselstein.
Op de schildering is een vrouw afgebeeld van wie het haar overgaat in blauwe golven van de IJssel. Op de achtergrond zijn de ophaalbrug aan de Poortdijk en de Sint Nicolaasbasiliek te zien. Ook de Gerbrandytoren is afgebeeld. In deze 366 meter hoge toren worden jaarlijks in december honderden LED-lampen opgehangen, waardoor hij verandert in de grootste kerstboom van Nederland.
Ook het grotere elektriciteitskastje is op een mooie manier in het ontwerp verwerkt. Onder de golf, waarin de tekst “als een druppel in de oceaan van het menselijk bestaan” is opgenomen, vallen twee druppels; de derde druppel staat afgebeeld op het elektriciteitskastje.
