In de Halenstraat, op een boogscheut van Park Spoor Noord, is een meterslange muurschildering van ‘Pink Painter’ verschenen. Op het kleurrijk tafereel pronkt onder meer voetbalicoon Rik Coppens. 

Pink Painter’, nam de spoorwegmuur in de Halenstraat onder handen. Tijdens dat creatief proces gaf ze ook gratis graffiti-workshops en demonstraties aan kinderen en buurtbewoners.

Rik Coppens schitterde als voetballer vooral op het Kiel, maar hij groeide op in de Seefhoek. Daar hielp hij zijn ouders in hun viswinkel in de Lange Zavelstraat. Op zestienjarige leeftijd brak hij door bij Beerschot VAC, waar hij als snel uitgroeide tot publiekslieveling. Coppens schopte het tot Rode Duivel en werd tweemaal topschutter in de Belgische eerste klasse. In 1954 won hij de allereerste Gouden Schoen.

“Park Spoor Noord is het groene, sportieve hart van Antwerpen Noord”, vertelt Femke Meeusen (Groen), districtsschepen van Cultuur. “Dat sportieve trekken we door in het ontwerp ‘Helden van Antwerpen Noord’. Qua populariteit vormen voetbal en cricket wereldwijd er momenteel de top twee. De muurschildering brengt beide sporten broederlijk samen. Een legendarisch voetbalicoon en kinderen met een sportdroom. Zo brengt het werk verleden en toekomst naadloos samen. Een mooi symbool van de diversiteit in 2060 en een prachtige blikvanger voor de buurt.”

A new mural by 'Pink Painter' appeared in Halenstraat, a stone's throw from Park Spoor Noord. The colorful scene includes football icon Rik Coppens.
Pink Painter', painted the railway wall in the Halenstraat. During that creative process, she also gave free graffiti workshops and demonstrations to children and local residents.

Rik Coppens shined as a footballer mainly on 'the Kiel' (home of legendary Beerschot foortball club), but he grew up in the 'Seefhoek'. There he helped his parents in their fish shop. At the age of sixteen he broke through at Beerschot VAC, where he quickly grew into a crowd favorite. Coppens made it to national squad and twice became top scorer in the Belgian first division. In 1954 he won the very first 'Golden Shoe'.
“Park Spoor Noord is the green, sporty heart of Antwerp North”, says Femke Meeusen (Groen), district alderman for Culture. “We continue that sporting aspect in the design 'Helden van Antwerpen Noord'. In terms of popularity, football and cricket are currently the top two worldwide. The mural brings both sports brotherly together. A legendary football icon and kids with a sports dream. In this way, the work seamlessly brings past and future together. A beautiful symbol of diversity in 2060 and a wonderful eye-catcher for the neighbourhood.”
