Bodas de plata

«Bodas de plata» significa el 25.º aniversario de boda. Elisa Capdevila creó la obra en 2022 por encargo del Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga y Larios.

Capdevila parte del cuadro «Recién Casados» (1905) del pintor español Ricardo López Cabrera, que forma parte de la colección del cercano Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga.

El cuadro original muestra a una pareja de recién casados durante una celebración íntima. Capdevila se plantea entonces la pregunta: ¿qué habrá sido de estas personas veinticinco años después?

En su mural vemos el mismo círculo de familiares y amigos, pero ahora, 25 años después, durante sus bodas de plata. Vuelven a celebrar juntos, pero ahora han envejecido y el entorno ha cambiado.

Para la atmósfera y los colores, Capdevila también se inspiró en «Atardecer sobre la costa de Málaga», del pintor malagueño Guillermo Gómez Gil. Los tonos cálidos y dorados hacen referencia a la puesta de sol mediterránea.

El Museo Carmen Thyssen quería llevar la colección del edificio del museo a las calles del centro histórico. Las fachadas vacías o monótonas que rodean el museo se utilizaron para nuevas obras de arte basadas en obras de la colección.
«Bodas de plata» fue el primer gran mural de esta iniciativa. Un año más tarde le siguió, «Brisa estival», del artista Lalone, en la calle Compañía.

‘Bodas de plata’ means a silver wedding anniversary – the 25th wedding anniversary. Elisa Capdevila created the work in 2022 on commission from the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga and Larios.

Capdevila takes her inspiration from the painting ‘Recién Casados’ (1905) by the Spanish painter Ricardo López Cabrera, which forms part of the collection of the nearby Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga.

The original painting depicts a newlywed couple during an intimate celebration. Capdevila then poses the question: what might have become of these people 25 years later?

In her mural, we see the same circle of family and friends, but now 25 years later, during their silver wedding anniversary. They are celebrating together once more, but they have now grown older and their surroundings have changed.

Capdevila also drew inspiration for the atmosphere and colours from ‘Atardecer sobre la costa de Málaga’ by the Málaga-born painter Guillermo Gómez Gil. The warm, golden hues evoke the Mediterranean sunset.

The Museo Carmen Thyssen wanted to bring the collection from the museum building out onto the streets of the historic centre. Empty or dull facades around the museum were used for new artworks based on pieces from the collection.

‘Bodas de plata’ was the first major mural as part of this initiative. A year later ‘Brisa estival’ by the artist Lalone followed in Calle Compañía.
