BURNING BUSH – BRANCACCIO NEIGHBOURHOOD, PALERMO 2021

This work is a triptych.
One of the murals represents an extinguished matchstick – like an Easter, a transition, a non-ending. The matchstick is Padre Puglisi, who lit a fire which is still burning.
When I finished painting this large mural I asked Nino to add the acronym INRI on top, as in a crucifixion, to convey the idea of sacrifice, the one Padre Puglisi made. They extinguished his flame, but the fire had already flared up!
