Description

DreamWeaver is a large-scale mural featuring two female figures portrayed in profile, standing back to back and looking in opposite directions. Their faces are framed by bold red and coral shapes, set against a deep navy and black background. Curving lines and geometric patterns extend across the façade, creating a symmetrical composition that combines portraiture with an intricate decorative design.

Created in 2020 on the Bentall Centre in downtown Vancouver, the mural is a collaboration between Squamish and 'Namgis artist James Harry and artist Lauren Brevner. It was commissioned in partnership with the Vancouver Mural Festival and emerged during the anti-racist protests of 2020.

The artists described the concept as two women standing back to back, dressed in a Salish blanket. The design draws on traditional Coast Salish blanket patterns and forms part of their ongoing artistic exploration, Weaving Culture, Weaving Spirit. The work also addresses racial justice and solidarity in the context of the Black Lives Matter movement.

By bringing these cultural references into a prominent urban setting, DreamWeaver connects Indigenous artistic traditions with contemporary social concerns. Its paired figures and interwoven patterns give the mural a strong visual identity while expressing themes of community, cultural connection and solidarity.
