The Pinto Cruising Wagon (Ford) was a visual and cultural icon of its time. With its side panels, van like windows, and eye catching decorations, it embodied that blend of the functional and the eccentric so characteristic of the late seventies in the U.S. It was an accessible, popular vehicle, yet with an extravagant touch that turned it into a symbol of a kitsch, carefree, and, in some ways, free aesthetic. It represented a way of life that was different, less tied to norms and the established order.
This mural invites reflection on what we tend to leave behind, what no longer works, what has been pushed to the margins, what time has moved out of focus. Objects, places, and ways of life that, having lost their immediate utility or value, we stop seeing. However, if we take a moment to look at it, we discover the beauty of what it once was and the relevance it still holds today.
