Description

Arkane, also known as Arnaud De Jesus Gonçalves, presents a beautifully executed mural, created using brushes and small rollers over a period of seven days on an 85m² wall.

A young girl, probably aged around thirteen, realises, given her circumstances and what she is going through, that it is time for her to protect herself, to defend herself… She finds various defensive items in her home, dating from the Middle Ages and the medieval period, and equips herself, taking care to personalise her new armour.

Beyond its aesthetic beauty, this mural is a contemporary manifesto. The figure depicted embodies the interpretation of a ‘modern Marianne’, a heroine of modern times, who invites reflection on major themes such as resilience in the face of violence against women or children and the necessity of self-defence in a world that is sometimes uncertain.

Created in the style of an Impressionist painter working on a canvas, the artist treats us to a remarkable piece of work that is an absolute must-see.
