The mural was created by Tunisian artist Shoof (Hosni Hertelli), whose work combines Arabic calligraphy with the visual language of street art. His practice is associated with calligraffiti, an art form in which writing serves not only as a vehicle for language but also as a graphic and compositional element. Shoof draws on the forms of Arabic script, breaking them away from their familiar context and transforming them into abstract structures characterised by rhythm, repetition and movement.
The dynamic white lines contrast sharply with the pink background. Rather than communicating an immediately legible message, the work directs attention to the visual qualities of writing: its curves, dense passages and fluid transitions. Arabic calligraphy remains recognisable as the artistic starting point, while its original readability recedes into the background.
The mural was created as part of the Festival International des Arts Urbains de Laon, organised by the city of Laon and curated by French street artist C215. The festival brings together international artists and transforms different parts of the city into an open-air gallery through large-scale murals.
