They Shall Not Pass – Echoes of Spain 1936–1939

Description

The mosaic ‘They Shall Not Pass – Echoes of Spain 1936–1939’ beneath the Westway viaduct on Portobello Road commemorates volunteers from the London borough of Kensington who fought in the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), and pays tribute to Spanish Republican refugees.

It was designed by artists Barbara Gorton and Maureen Pepper and was unveiled on 18 October 2006 by veteran Jack Jones and the Spanish Ambassador, Carlos Miranda.
