Jazz Venue De Tor (EN)

Jazzpodium de Tor, founded in 1970, is one of the oldest jazz clubs in the Netherlands. Many great names have performed there: Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker. One of the regular guest artists is Jasper van ’t Hof, who is particularly well-known abroad. The Enschede-born pianist and composer received the Netherlands’ most prestigious jazz award, the Boy Edgar Prize, in 2018 at the age of 71. The distinctive building of Jazzpodium de Tor features an eye-catching mural by Dirk Oeghoede. At the initiative of the Walstraat Working Group, the artist created a connection in 2005 between the city’s slogan, the unique character of the De Tor building, and the freedom and creativity of jazz music. In the center of the colorful scene is an abstracted tower within a yellow field. The jazz venue’s logo is visible in the upper right corner.

Jazzpodium de Tor, opgericht in 1970, is een van de oudste jazzclubs van ons land. Grote namen traden er op: Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker. Een van de eregasten die er regelmatig optreedt is, de vooral in het buitenland zeer bekende, Jasper van ’t Hof. De in Enschede geboren pianist/componist ontving in 2018 op 71-jarige leeftijd de belangrijkste jazzonderscheiding van ons land: de Boy Edgar Prijs. Op het karakteristieke pand van Jazzpodium de Tor is de in het oog springende muurschildering van Dirk Oeghoede te vinden. Op initiatief van werkgroep Walstraat, creëerde de kunstenaar in 2005 een verbinding tussen de slogan van de stad, de eigenheid van het gebouw de Tor en de vrijheid en creativiteit van jazzmuziek. In het midden van het kleurrijke tafereel bevindt zich een geabstraheerde tor in een geel vlak. Rechts bovenin is het logo van het jazzpodium te zien.
