Here´s an article from the local news coze.fr:
This month, we’re taking you to the Montagne Verte neighborhood in Strasbourg to discover the work of Valentin Gall. You may have already come across Valentin in our pages, as he created the cover of the May 2023 issue of Coze Magazine! He often works with pictograms and had previously proposed a black-and-white version of Strasbourg and its cathedral.
For this month’s artwork, we present a mural created by Valentin last April as part of Colors City. For this piece, the artist asked himself why the Strasbourg neighborhood of Montagne Verte (Green Mountain) carries this name. Valentin, who frequently works around heritage and monuments, looked into the history of the area in order to develop this project.
Faced with the many hypotheses about the origins of the name (does it come from a former inn called the “Tour Verte” ("Green Tower"), or from the clusters of poplars that created the illusion of a small mountain?), he decided to recreate this famous mountain. On this electrical transformer, we can see the linear style typical of Valentin’s work, with bricks drawn across all four walls of the building. But there is also a desire to break away from these lines—cracking open the bricks to reveal the green mountain inside. A lovely nod to the neighborhood!
