Strong Children

The mural was completed on April 28, 2025 – just before the start of the Ephra Open Lab weekend, featuring workshops by artists for children and families.

Created by artist Frank Lehmann aka AKUT, the artwork spans the entire façade of the Ephra House. At its center, in bold red letters, is the quote: "IT IS EASIER TO BUILD STRONG CHILDREN THAN TO REPAIR BROKEN ADULTS." – a variation of a well-known saying by African-American social reformer Frederick Douglass.

Flanking the text are striking, large-scale portraits of children. The message is clear: empowering and supporting children is vital for society. It speaks of diversity, self-empowerment, protection, and identity – and the collective responsibility to give children the best possible start in life.
