Description

In 2021, the Waste Department of the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch called on the help of Kings of Colors to start transforming the boring metal containers in the city into beautiful and colorful works of art.

The choice to paint a portrait of Rembrandt is of course because of the name of the street. Romy has written down and drawn all kind of information and memories about her youth. She was born in Drunen, and this personal touch brings a part of her past to the design.

The portrait that is central to the design contains three eyes, each with its own meaning. The left eye is the eye of famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn. The right eye is Romy's own eye, a personal connection and a playful wink to herself. The third eye is that of the iconic pop star Madonna, which adds a modern twist to the design.

In addition, Delft blue is a prominent part of the design. Romy made this choice not only because of the specific blue color that the containers had to have, but also because she likes to work with patterns, especially Delft blue. This pattern has historical significance and dates back to Rembrandt's time, making it a perfect fit to the theme of the design.

You can find all art containers together on a special website: https://containerkunst.nl/
