La gueule de bois

This collage is part of the “Au pied de la Lettre” (To the letter) series begun by Les Murs ont des Oreilles in the fall of 2020.

The expression “La gueule de bois”—literally “the wooden mouth” but commonly meaning “hangover”—is illustrated by one of the panels from the “Triptych of the Braque Family,” created around 1452 by the Flemish artist Rogier van der Weyden.
