Artist Statement — Untitled (Kansas City Mural)
By Osiris Rain
Kansas City, Missouri — SprayseeMO Festival

This mural was created as part of the SprayseeMO Festival in Kansas City, Missouri, and represents a meditation on transformation, connection, and stillness amidst the constant motion of urban life.

At the center of the composition is a contemplative portrait of a woman holding a small bird—a moment of quiet reverence captured within a larger world of color and energy. Behind her, the soft glow of a sunset and the delicate wings of a butterfly suggest themes of metamorphosis and renewal. Together, these elements reflect the fragile balance between humanity and nature, between what is fleeting and what endures.

The bird, a symbol of both freedom and vulnerability, serves as an emissary between worlds—earthbound yet capable of flight. The subject’s calm expression invites viewers to pause and reconnect with that sense of wonder and presence that often slips away in the pace of modern life.

Through my work, I aim to merge realism and abstraction to create spaces where emotion and symbolism coexist. This mural is a celebration of the quiet strength found in reflection, the beauty of transformation, and the enduring connection between all living things.
