In 2018 onthulde de Sloveens-Gentse kunstenaar Mark Požlep het containerkunstwerk Agora op de zogenaamde Konijnenwei, het grasveld vlak naast het justitiepaleis en Nieuw Zuid. Het elf meter hoge kunstwerk kwam tot stand in het kader van EXPO 2018, dat kunst op openbare plekken wil promoten en bestaat uit drie scheepscontainers die opgesteld zijn als een tipi. Verbondenheid en samenhorigheid, dat waren voor Požlep de thema’s waarmee hij aan het werk ging. De plaats waar het kunstwerk staat, moet een ontmoetingsplaats zijn voor de mensen uit de buurt, stuk voor stuk heel verschillende mensen. Het is dus niet verwonderlijk dat de titel van het werk, Agora, verwijst naar het Griekse woord voor marktplaats.

 "Op vraag van de buurt hebben we het bestaande containerkunstwerk nu in een nieuw jasje gestoken", zegt schepen voor cultuur Femke Meeusen (Groen). Daarvoor deed ze een beroep op de Belgisch-Amerikaanse kunstenaar A Squid Called Sebastian. Hij verwierf onder meer bekendheid met kunstzinnige murals of schilderingen in de straten van Gent. Voor de creatie van deze mural ging hij in gesprek met Požlep, waarmee hij de basis legde voor het eindresultaat.

Het ontwerp heeft de naam "Reaching" gekregen en toont twee handen die samen naar een ster reiken. Ze staan symbool voor "de universele hoop en dromen die iedereen heeft, hoop op verandering en dromen van een nieuwe wereld."

In 2018, the Slovenian-Ghent artist Mark Požlep unveiled the container artwork Agora on the so-called 'Konijnenwei', the big green space right next to the courthouse and Nieuw Zuid. The 11-metre-high artwork was created as part of EXPO 2018, which aims to promote art in public places and consists of three shipping containers arranged like a tipi. Connection and togetherness, those were the themes for Požlep to work with. The place where the work of art is located must be a meeting place for the people in the neighbourhood, all very different people. It is therefore not surprising that the title of the work, Agora, refers to the Greek word for marketplace.

  "At the request of the neighbourhood, we have now given the existing container artwork a new look," says alderman for culture Femke Meeusen (Groen). For this she called upon the Belgian-American artist A Squid Called Sebastian. Among other things, he gained fame with artistic murals or paintings in the streets of Ghent. For the creation of this mural, he talked to Požlep, laying the foundation for the end result.

The design has been named "Reaching" and shows two hands reaching for a star together. They symbolize "the universal hopes and dreams that everyone has, hope for change and dreams of a new world."
