CHULLACHAQUI

Description

The Chullachaqui is represented reflected in a broken mirror. A shapeshifting spirit of the Amazonian mythology, the Chullachaqui is said to take different forms, sometimes even the appearance of someone familiar, leading those who do not respect the forest astray. In the fractured reflections of the mirror, its image multiplies and becomes uncertain, suggesting that in the jungle one cannot always trust what is seen.

The figure wears the traditional hat of Rioja, hand-woven from palm leaves by local women, a craft passed down through generations. This element connects the mythological presence of the forest with the living culture of the territory where the mural was created.

This work marks the first mural by Neve executed entirely with brushes and acrylic paint.
