Creative Space

Alter Wartesaal im Bahnhof Herne

Description

The Old Waiting Room at Herne Station is a vibrant, urban cultural venue and exhibition space for contemporary art located directly inside the historic station building. Originally built in 1914 as a 3rd-class waiting room, the space was extensively renovated and reopened in 2017 as part of an urban renewal project. Since early 2024, its program has been managed by the Herne Cultural Office in cooperation with Flottmann-Hallen. It serves as a creative laboratory for visual arts, readings, theater performances, concerts, DJ sets, poetry slams, and subcultural events like short film nights. The venue features a stage with modern sound equipment and accommodates up to 120 guests.

Entry to the regular art exhibitions is usually free of charge for all visitors.

Opening Hours (during exhibitions): Usually open from Thursday to Sunday between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Andrea Ranke (streetartwalks)
In 2013 I started with a new hobby. In the beginning it was difficult to get reliable information how to find streetart in public space. In 2016, I had the idea of sharing my information with other street art enthusiasts and started my blog “Streetartwalks”. When I found out about this new street art community at the beginning of 2018, I was immediately on board.
