Let's play

During a participatory workshop with local young people, it emerged that the children need extra play space. They were not welcome in the forest, the basketball court was the only area where they could play freely. Physically it is said that maybe not great, intellectually there are no limits.
Said design plays on the idea of ​​the 'car carpet' or the 'traffic mat'. A small surface that symbolizes a whole world beyond. The three-dimensional planes create a playing field that encompasses more than two dimensions. The many surfaces create possibilities for the imaginative realization of new game possibilities (hopscotch,…)
This project was carried out by art collective Treepack.

Tijdens een participatieve workshop met lokale jongeren kwam er naar boven dat de kinderen nood hebben aan extra speelruimte. In het bos waren ze niet welkom, het basketbal pleintje was het enige terrein waar ze vrij konden spelen. Fysiek is dit pleintje dan misschien niet groot, mentaal zijn er geen grenzen.
Dit ontwerp speelt met het idee van het ‘auto-tapijt’ of de ‘verkeersmat’. Een kleine fysieke oppervlakte die symbool staat voor een hele achterliggende wereld. De driedimensionale vlakken creëren een speelveld wat schijnbaar meer dan twee dimensies omvat. De vele vlakken creëren anderzijds mogelijkheden tot het fantasierijk invullen van nieuwe spelmogelijkheden (hinkelen,… )
