The Old Man

"The Old Man", Seidenweberhaus, Krefeld by Fabio Maria Fedele from Rovigno as part of the "Silk City Gallery" and the Krefeld change of perspective under the artistic direction of Fredda Wouters from Kevelaer. The wings are a symbolism to make the character transcendent. Angels belong to a religious or New Age context, the wings on humans belong to a secular or pagan symbolic context. The old man has wings because he is not human but the embodiment of the idea of time, and we know that time flies.

Blue is a melancholy color; it does not represent water, but the sky.

The fossil represents an invented tropical fish. It does not represent the decline of nature. It represents the decline of human expectations, human presumption, but also our simple life, our honest feelings. Everything that is important to us becomes shortly after our death disappear. It is a reflection on the vanity of our existence. Nature will continue undisturbed even after our extinction.

The building will be destroyed, and with it our paintings. The old man represents time and holds a fossil in his hand. The fossil represents what we will leave behind in our future. Like the building and the works, our lives will also be destroyed, and what remains of our feelings, of our actions, will be small and unexpected to us.
