Umarmungsleiter

Description

The idea for the motif developed over several years and is meant to express the longing for love and togetherness. Various influences contributed to the concept. In response to many events—such as the renewed rise of racism, the flight of countless people due to the climate crisis and wars—the image took shape: people of different backgrounds and generations embracing one another, offering help, giving support, and standing for unity.

The intertwined, diversely painted figures are intended to appear friendly, lovable, and helpful, reflecting a natural, mutual respect.

The COVID-19 pandemic, with its contact restrictions, distancing rules, and lockdowns, gave the symbolism of encounters and embraces a new and profound meaning, further emphasizing its relevance and importance.

Even the smaller elements—such as the accidental spilling of water, FFP2 masks, or the wrapped guitar—refer to unintended waste and devaluation.

The rise in global temperatures is represented through the color palette, moving from cool tones at the bottom to warm tones at the top of the “embrace ladder.” To address the extinction of various animal species caused by climate change, several animals are included in the scene, depicted as anxious, questioning, and observant, adding lightness to the overall composition.

In light of the climate crisis, we must prepare for times of great challenges—times in which we will need to hold, support, and help one another.
