el Muelle de Montera es mucho más que un graffiti antiguo. Es uno de los testimonios físicos más importantes de cómo nació una escena de graffiti propiamente madrileña en los años 80, y probablemente la firma superviviente más emblemática de Juan Carlos Argüello.

¿Por qué es tan importante el de Montera?

Porque sobrevivió durante décadas cuando prácticamente todas las demás firmas de Muelle fueron desapareciendo. El archivo de Memoria de Madrid señala que la de Montera era la única que quedaba en el centro de Madrid y la describe como una de las más emblemáticas de su producción.

Restauración y conservación

La firma sufrió deterioro con el paso del tiempo. En 2015 se realizó una intervención para consolidarla y evitar que siguiera desprendiéndose el material pictórico. También se recuperó el acabado de la fachada alrededor de la firma y se instaló una protección para reducir el efecto de la lluvia.

The Muelle de Montera (Montera Wharf) is much more than just an old piece of graffiti. It's one of the most important physical testimonies to the birth of a distinctly Madrid graffiti scene in the 1980s, and probably Juan Carlos Argüello's most emblematic surviving signature.

The address listed in the municipal archives is 30 Montera Street. However, the Muelle Art project documentation itself identifies the façade as 32 Montera Street. This is a minor discrepancy in the numbering that appears in the sources.

Why is the Montera Street signature so important?

Because it survived for decades while virtually all of Muelle's other signatures disappeared. The Madrid Memory Archive indicates that the Montera signature was the only one remaining in the center of Madrid and describes it as one of the most emblematic of his work.

Restoration and Conservation

The signature deteriorated over time. In 2015, work was carried out to consolidate it and prevent further flaking of the paint. The façade finish around the signature was also restored, and a protective covering was installed to reduce the effects of rain.
