De kenmerkende stijl van Marina Capdevila komt voort uit haar werk als illustratrice. De kunstenares laat zich vooral inspireren door de schoonheid en levenslust van ouderen. Met haar grootmoeder als haar spirituele dier creëert ze levendige, zelfs vurige portretten van ouderen. Ze zijn een kritiek op de ondervertegenwoordiging van meer dan een derde van de bevolking in zowel de kunst als de media. Af en toe sluipt er echter ook een politieke boodschap in haar werk, want met die watermeloenen wil ze absoluut haar steun betuigen aan het Palestijnse volk.

Marina Capdevila’s distinct style stems from her practice as an illustrator. The artist is particularly inspired by the beauty and zest for life of the elderly. With her grandmother as her spirit animal, she creates vivid, even fiery portraits of older people. They’re a critique of the under-representation of over a third of the population in both the arts and the media. Occasionally, though, a political message also creeps into her work, as she most definitely wants to show her support for the Palestinian people with those watermelons.
