"LESSONS"

Born and raised in New Orleans, Ayo Scott says he first began painting “as a means of letting go of life’s curveballs": in post-Katrina New Orleans; grad school at the Chicago Institute of Design; and the death of his father, artist John T. Scott. As Scott watched the NOLA changing around him he began using his art to preserve elements and highlight some of what makes New Orleans unique. In 2021 The Helis Foundation asked Scott to participate in their Unframed project with this piece on O'Keefe Ave in the Warehouse District. Scott says this ode to generations of New Orleanians includes depictions of some of his fathers well known sculptures and his daughter dressed as Wonder Woman and holding a daisy as a tribute to his mother.
