Doppeldenk was named after a term from George Orwell's legendary utopia novel "1984", in which "Doppeldenk" describes the ability to have two completely opposite views in one's head at the same time and to accept them both. In the case of Marcel Baer and Andreas Glauch, this means depicting multi-layered worlds in their motley and extremely complex works. If at first glance they impress primarily with their neon colors and the numerous allusions to topics of pop and subculture, they also have a further, much more subversive level.
