California Republic

California Republic is a large-scale street-art mural covering the façade of the former Oakland building on Victoria Road, New Brighton. The artwork takes its inspiration from California’s iconic bear imagery, depicting a stylised bear in profile against a warm, earthy palette of terracotta, ochre, cream and brown. The bear and surrounding shapes are painted across the building’s architectural features, with the windows, doors and horizontal timberwork incorporated into the composition rather than treated as separate elements.
