Artist Anouk Brand: “For me as an artist, this artwork is more than just a mural; it is an emotional homecoming. The street where this work was created is the street where I grew up. A neighbourhood full of memories of endless summers, sidewalk chalk, friendships and fantasy worlds where anything was possible. Together with local residents, I was given the unique opportunity to capture this magic in a life-size work of art that both honours the past and inspires the future.

The design tells the story of childlike imagination in a changing world. You can see a child looking out of a window in wonder. The child symbolises all the children in the neighbourhood, with the world still at their feet. The open windows symbolise opportunity, freedom and openness. The hot air balloons, birds, butterflies and fantasy vehicles in the sky represent the many directions a child can take in life, as a dreamer, builder, adventurer or explorer.

Whereas streets used to be playgrounds full of encounters and interaction, they are now often quiet. Playing has given way to screens, and imagination has given way to formats. With this artwork, I want to literally make the power of imagination visible again in the streetscape. I want to remind children of the importance of dreaming, and adults of their childhood.

Every element in the air has been deliberately chosen. The birds carry children and symbolise being carried by the community or family. The hot air balloon represents slowness and wonder in a world that is moving ever faster. The butterflies show vulnerability and growth, and the ship full of belongings and a child with binoculars symbolise curiosity and the desire to discover the world, even if you don't yet know where you are going.

Artiest Anouk Brand: “Dit kunstwerk is voor mij als kunstenaar meer dan alleen een muurschildering; het is een emotionele thuiskomst. De straat waarin dit werk gerealiseerd is, is de plek waar ik ben opgegroeid. Een buurt vol herinneringen aan eindeloze zomers, stoepkrijt, vriendschappen en fantasiewerelden waarin alles mogelijk was. Ik kreeg, samen met buurtbewoners, de unieke kans om deze magie vast te leggen in een levensgroot kunstwerk dat zowel het verleden eert als de toekomst inspireert.

Het ontwerp vertelt het verhaal van kinderlijke verbeelding in een veranderende wereld. Je ziet een kind dat vol verwondering uit het raam kijkt. Dit kind symboliseert alle kinderen uit de buurt, met de wereld nog aan hun voeten. De open ramen staan symbool voor kansen, vrijheid en openheid. De luchtballonnen, vogels, vlinders en fantasievoertuigen in de lucht representeren de vele richtingen die een kind in het leven op kan gaan, als dromer, bouwer, avonturier of ontdekkingsreiziger.

Waar vroeger de straat een speelplaats was vol ontmoeting en samenspel, is het nu vaak stil. Spelen maakt plaats voor schermen, fantasie voor formats. Met dit kunstwerk wil ik de kracht van verbeelding letterlijk opnieuw zichtbaar maken in het straatbeeld. Ik wil kinderen herinneren aan het belang van dromen, en volwassenen aan hun kind-zijn.

Elk element in de lucht is bewust gekozen. De vogels dragen kinderen en zijn symbool voor gedragen worden door de gemeenschap of familie.
De luchtballon staat voor traagheid en verwondering in een wereld die steeds sneller gaat. De vlinders tonen kwetsbaarheid én groei en het schip vol spullen en een kind met een verrekijker symboliseert nieuwsgierigheid en het verlangen om de wereld te ontdekken, zelfs als je nog niet weet waar je naartoe gaat.
