Fictional Distortion

FD Crew has created a monumental futuristic world. At the centre of the composition is a large, highly ornamental lettering piece integrated into the architecture. Around and beneath it are a turquoise humanoid figure, futuristic buildings and vehicles, while the left-hand section shows a gigantic dragon being attacked by a spacecraft. A large yellow moon, intense red and orange areas, and dark rock formations contribute to the mural's dramatic, apocalyptic atmosphere.

The work is a tribute to French comic artist and screenwriter Philippe Druillet. His monumental science-fiction and fantasy worlds, populated by futuristic cities, monstrous creatures, spacecraft and monumental ruins, provided an important source of inspiration for FD Crew. The mural incorporates these characteristic elements while developing them into an original composition rather than directly reproducing a specific Druillet illustration.

The mural was created in 2024 as part of the eighth edition of Street Art Avenue, the approximately five-kilometre urban-art route running along the Canal Saint-Denis between Paris, Aubervilliers and Saint-Denis. Seine-Saint-Denis Tourisme identifies FD Crew as a collective from the Seine-Saint-Denis area. For the 2024 edition, the group was among the French artists commissioned to create new works for Street Art Avenue.
