"Fardo" (Bundle) is a huge textile installation, by Peruvian Artist, Andrea Canepa, that covers the Crystal Palace in the Retiro Park, while it is being renovated until the beginning of 2027, and which simbolizes an encounter between two cultures
The artist was amazed by the Paracas Culture, in her home country, and how they bury their dead using colourful cloths in different patterns to cover the bodies and a myriad of ropes to form bundles.
This installation has the aim of mixing contrarians, and hence covering with "traditional cloths" a Palace that when open in 1887, was the epitome of modernism. Also these vibrant cloths, good for covering and hiding, contrast with the essence of the Palace which is full transparency.
The artist mixed techniques to achieve this 1000 square meters project, first she oil painted different patterns on cloths, using sometimes 8 meter long fabrics, then everything was photographed and then printed onto waterproof material, and carefully installed .
