Elph’s technique involves letting the pressure out of the can, but not the paint, so it comes out much more loosely. Look at the boy’s har and the bark of the tree to see the ‘splattering’ effect. Originally the design included the boy holding a ballon, but while he was painting a passer-by informed him this was a fishing tackle shop and had been for a very long time, so he changed the design to incorporate the pond and that the boy is holding a fishing rod instead of a balloon.
