Description

The poem IK VAN JOU (I [love] you) by Minke Maat served as the inspiration for a stunning mural by graffiti artist Eric van Der Vegt. The text is clearly legible, brought to life by two colourful faces and geometric shapes that symbolise the building blocks of life. Next to it are colourful wings, which quickly became one of the city’s favourite selfie spots. The dedicated hashtag #hillywings can now be found all over social media. #Hillywings was unveiled at the end of November 2020, at a time when travel was not possible due to Covid. Van der Vegt himself says of this artwork: “Every major city has a spot like this, but because we can’t travel at the moment, we felt that Hilversum should have a selfie spot too. That’s how Hilversum gives you wings.”
