Mural "Sena" by contemporary Basque artist Irantzu Lekue in the squatter neighborhood of Errekaleor (Gasteiz - Basque Country)

The squatter district of Errekaleor from Gasteiz opens a mural. It does so on the occasion of the anniversary of March 3 when the police killed five workers after the assembly held in the church in the neighborhood of Zaramaga. One of them, Romualdo Barroso, was a neighbor of Errekaleor. Therefore, the new mural remembers what happened and also makes a special mention to Salvador Puig Antich, Catalan anarchist and antifascist murdered by garrote vil on the morning of March 2, 1974.

Among the muralists and street artists who have left their works stand out Blu (Italy) known as the Italian Bansky, Tomás Facio (Argentina), Barricada Gráfica and El Yako (Chile), Ocu and Kerozen (Romania) or Nicole Salgar (USA), in addition to Irantzu Lekue herself. They have also painted on their walls Escif, Manolo Mesa, Zora and Juli; Andrea Btoy or The King of the Ruin. The origin of this alternative mural route, far from the traditional tourist circuit of the city, dates back to the settlement of the 'squat' movement where there were people with artistic concerns, who painted and wanted to express their messages through its walls. Over time, Errekaleor has been extending its invitations to world-renowned artists and the neighborhood has become a reference for lovers of urban art or street art.
