Luigi

The mosaic features the classic 8-bit Luigi, known from the early Super Mario Bros. games. Above him, fragments of a Question Mark Block and a Brick Block are still visible.

Since 2025, an anonymous street artist has been transforming Ludwigshafen with vibrant pixel-art mosaics. Over 60 artworks are now scattered across the city, appearing unexpectedly on walls, bridges, and lampposts.

The "Phantom’s" signature style features nostalgic 90s retro video game characters, including Super Mario, Pac-Man, Toad, and various Pokémon. In a rare interview, the artist stated their simple goal is to "bring color into the gray."

The response is overwhelmingly positive. While residents enjoy the nostalgic childhood memories, the city administration officially tolerates the art for enhancing the urban landscape.
