Description

Big new mural in this social housing area by the famous Spanish artist.
We quote him about his work: "This is a residential area of social housing, mostly inhabited by immigrant families, people with social exclusion problems or at risk of poverty. This mural represents the time of transition for many families who come to the Nieuw Ghent district, the need to move to the neighborhood as the only alternative to their situation but at the same time, their desire and hope that they will, someday, have the opportunity to live in a better place.
While all human beings are entitled to housing, the socioeconomic reality makes this need unmet for many individuals. The construction and administration of social housing also means a correction to the poor functioning of the real estate market, which leaves many people out."

The 2 children you see, Ahmed and Aya, just live 100m from this wall. It mural is based on a picture taken during a local festival by the young local photographer Luka Van der Cruyssen.

A project by Wallin' vzw with support from stad Gent.

Living in Ghent (Belgium), so most pictures are taken in my home town. And yes, that's the place I'm taking care of on Street Art Cities. Let me know when you come over to visit, perhaps we can have a drink or walk.
