A wall has many advantages. It offers protection from the noise of a busy road and separates the private property from the public space. The disadvantages of concrete structures typically include the visual quality of the objects, which often leave a grey eyesore in their surroundings. A good example of this was the 70 metre long wall in Dubeloh Streets in Paderborn. This was remedied by the artist Lacks, who used a bunch of spray cans to fit the wall with its green surroundings. Over the past few years, the artist from Wahlbochum has become a much sought-after sprayer, having already designed large façades and objects for numerous companies in the Ruhr region. In Paderborn, LACKS fulfilled the great wish of the local neighbourhood to upgrade the wall in terms of design. One of the highlights of the mural is definitely the medieval-style depiction of Paderborn's city centre on the left-hand side of the wall. The wind turbines of Lichtenau, which have almost become a landmark of the region, can be seen in the background. The larger trees on the back of the wall have been perfectly integrated into the graffiti on the road. As the wall is located near the fish ponds, LACKS created a pond landscape with reeds, water lilies and a magnificent swan on the right-hand side of the wall. It remains to be seen how the local squirrels will react to the illustrative self-portrait. In any case, the residents on Dubelohstraße are overjoyed. One cyclist commented on the picture on Instagram: ‘I saw the mural just before it was finished and had to get off my bike to fully appreciate it! So beautifully integrated into the gardens behind it, or vice versa. Simply great cinema.’
