Cultural, authentic and changeable is the identity of the material that paints the distinct landscape of Óbidos.
The proximity of this feature in the village and the expression of lime promotes a rapprochement of identity with the act of whitewashing, valuing tradition.
The ephemerality of the work, resulting from external phenomena assumed by us artistically, gives the project the dynamic and evolutionary character that defines it.
Maria Adelaide Ribeirete, founder of Óbidos bobbin lace, is the representative face of those who perpetuate this practice. In the late 1940s, she drew inspiration from the motifs present on the ceiling of the church of Santa Maria, through a mirror. It is the direction of your gaze, reflected by it, to the patterns that are now associated with the village.
